Personal goal setting16 min read
Your life is a piece of canvas and you are the painter of your life. It’s your responsibility to decide which colours and what kind of design you want it to be on canvas.
Personal goal setting is the decision “the way you want to live your life”. Decisions are only beginning and action is the real first step towards your goal.
So, let’s have a journey of personal goal setting.
A,B,C,D Of Personal Goal Setting
Ambitious: Think hundred times before setting the goal, when you decide to pursue it you must be ambitious. Your ambitions will make your dream come true.
Believe: The world is a shopping mall and you may buy whatever you want to but the condition is that you must believe in yourself. Your belief system is the true energy which never falls you down and it plays the key role in the matter of your goal.
Creativity: We all have the unlocked creative box inside our mind few of us opened it knowingly and many of us don’t know how to open it. You may unlock by thinking the matter differently and keep practising. Make Your own point of view, think out of the box. Besides that accept the different opinions of folks.
So, you can give your best in work and finish it early.
Discipline: Discipline is the base of any goal, dream, project, work etc. like, for plantation soil is the base. When a discipline word comes in your work it brings punctuality, focus, dedication.
That’s why before you set any goal in life, concrete your A, B, C, D for that goal.
SET YOUR GOALS ON PAPER
It’s really important to write down your goals on paper because your dream of goals should be visible, not fuzzy.
When you write a goal on a piece of paper, it helps you to visualise. Our mind needs some strong reasons to believe and nothing could be better than written goals.
Keep this paper where you can see many times throughout the day.
Believe in that written paper, visualise your future and live your future is now. Like fake it till make it.
Make-believe that you are the person who you want to be. Live like you have it already and one day your belief will be turned into reality. I know it sounds filmy but if you have doubts then it’s not going to work.
In the beginning l mentioned A, B, C, D OF GOALS and B for believe so just follow these steps one by one and pour your heart into the work.
It happens that you are giving your best but still you are not even close to the goals. In this case, you have to be patient.
For example, if you wish to catch a butterfly but you are failing several times then just sit on the grass like a statue and let the butterfly come to you.
Your patience with smart work will bring the moment you are waiting for.
DIVIDE YOUR GOAL IN SMALL STEPS
If you have a big dream then divide in small steps to achieve your goal. When you see that your goal is not a journey of weeks or months but a journey of years.
In this long journey, you will be having many ups and downs. It will be easy for you to divide your dream into small parts, when you are achieving small parts of your goal then the positive energy will bring the goal closer.
Remember, when you have a goal then you must get ready for not only obstacles but also unexpected obstacles.
Like a warrior, once you jump into the battlefield it is a do or die situation.
Let me give you my example, when I started my website I knew only one thing that I have a skill of writing but I never tried blogging before.
I believe in myself and started my journey where I was facing many problems and still I’m facing many unexpected problems.
I have some life ethics and one of them is that “think before you start something, think for a hundred times but once you agree then don’t stop till the time you reach your goal.
Arise, awake and don’t stop until the goal is reached.
Swami Vivekanand.
CLARITY
What is the difference between success and failure? The answer is clear. “CLARITY TOWARDS GOAL”.
When you have a clear vision of your goal and you are dedicated to that then no one can stop you to achieve it.
The whole universe will help you only on one condition that “don’t lose your faith”.
COMMITMENT
Commit yourself to work for your goal. This commitment must be superior to the rest of the priorities.
SIGNS OF COMMITMENT
❇️ If you feel that you can do better but you don’t. (Analysing)
❇️ If you see the problems as a challenge then you are on the right track. (Brave)
❇️ If you work for long days and sleepless nights. (No excuses)
❇️ If you think your goal is the most important. (Priority)
GOAL V/S GOALS
Your biggest enemy lies in your mind who stops you from being a successful person.
You all have goals in life but your small or short term goals are distractions for the real goal.
For example,
If you are a writer, your process will be writing on a daily basis.
If you are a runner, your process will be running for each day even if the rainy season is going.
If you are a businessman, your process will be to grow your business globally.
Above all goals are long term goals but “short term” goals are the distractions for long term goals.
You love to play the guitar as a hobby, it’s good to have a hobby of musical instruments but your late-night guitar practices, watching guitar tutorials for a long time will definitely distract you from long term goals.
That’s why I always suggest you keep an eye on your life, look closely on your schedule. If you have written on paper then it’s easy for you to identify your spending hours.
Don’t allow short term goals to defocus from long term goal.
DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO OTHERS OPINIONS
It’s your biggest mistake when you allow someone to interrupt in your vision of the goal. Just mind your own business and talk to the selected people because very few people truly know about your potential.
It will be good if you apply the same thing for life as well.
DO NOT BLAME OTHERS
It is very easy to blame others for your failure and banging your head.
For example, you have given some important work to your colleague and he/she ruined it. There are high chances that you could not finish that work by the deadline. Here you trust your colleague but he/she didn’t keep their word but eventually you have to pay for that loss.
Moral of the example is that either you do yourself or someone else’s doing no matter because it’s your life and anything will happen in your life you are the only responsible person for your loss no matter if someone cheated on you, someone broke your trust.
In short, life is like a ship and you are the captain of your life, beat the weaves and move ahead.
Problems are painful but don’t forget the solution is a success.
JOURNEY OF A GOAL
My intention is not to make you scary but to show you the reality and this reality is worse than fiction. Those who have goals in life they must have experienced.
Either it’s a journey of goal or life we must be ready for problems and unwanted problems.
Problems: Traffic, heavy rain, health issues etc.
Unwanted problems: earthquake, cyclone, COVID-19 (Chinese virus) etc.
Keep yourself ready for everything no matter your goal is easy or tough but your mental state would be steady, strong and calm.
Steady: steady brain finds out the difference between important and unimportant work.
Strong: strong brain helps you to fight against the distractions, obstacles and turns them into opportunities.
Calm: calm mind is the sign of maturity.
Ups and downs are part of our journey so keep yourself ready for everything.
YOUR TODAY IS YOUR TOMORROW
We work hard for goals which are part of the future and future means tomorrow. Here we have to understand that our tomorrow is hiding in today.
So make goal ethics and follow them on a daily basis because it’s now or never.
Make a daily planner and figure out how much time have you been wasted?. And think how to utilise that time to make your steps of success.
Ok, just ask yourself what did you do yesterday? Did you utilise your time effectively?. And afterwards, judge yourself.
TURN YOUR THOUGHTS INTO ACTION
Many of us have a bad habit that we keep thinking and thinking, instead of thinking less and working more.
When you think too much your brain gets tired by overthinking then your brain starts creating doubts and questions on your own thoughts.
So, please if you have a habit of keep thinking then break it immediately and turn your thoughts into actions. Your actions will bring you closer to achieving goals.
Remember, your thought is meaningless until it turns into action.
ENJOY YOUR GOAL
It’s really important to enjoy your goal. If your goal journey is full of fragrance then not only you but also other people will join in your work. Here I meant for fragrance is that work with a smile, work with a positive attitude, work with dedication, work with honesty.
You must know that people love smiley faces, if you are confident and honest people will trust you. And when hard work, honesty, and a positive attitude comes together your character will become charismatic. You attract the people unknowingly and that’s why I said “your journey must be full of fragrance”.
LOVE YOUR HEALTH
Your body speaks many things about your health. Keeping yourself in shape is not just good from a health point of view but it’s good for your life as well.
Love your health more than anything because your health is the source of all goals that you want to achieve.
There are three simple steps to take care of your health.
Exercise: Spare 30 minutes for exercise at least 4 times in a week. While exercising, pay attention to the same muscle that you are exercising.
Diet: Eat healthy, live healthy. Keeping your diet in control will keep you in shape. If you are a foodie person then divide your diet in 5-6 parts. Avoid late-night eating, it could spoil your next day.
The most important part of the diet is water. Drink lots of water and keep yourself hydrated. Don’t drink water while having food. Water should not be drunk before and after 30 minutes of eating time.
These small steps will make a huge difference within a month.
Sleep: Get a sleep of minimum 6 hours to maximum 7:30 hours in a day. It’s been proven by the scientists that if you don’t get sound sleep then in our brain there is a “glymphatic system” which works to remove metabolic waste from the brain and nervous system, it doesn’t function in a proper manner in case of your lack of sleep.
When you don’t have enough sleep then in the morning your head feels some kind of heaviness and it happens due to less sleep.
Like food is important for the body, the same way sleep is important for the brain.
I would say by my own experience “ in life nothing is more important than life”.
PERSONAL GOAL SETTING AT WORK
We all do work but dreams come true when you love your work.
FIND OUT YOUR FAVOURITE WORK
If you choose the work which is more important than anything, you will get success sooner.
The passion for your favourite work gives you immense and endless energy. The most essential part is that you don’t feel bored while working for long days and sleepless nights.
So always choose your favourite work to do because when you do your favourite work then work will not remain work.
GET AN “A+” WITH WORK ETHICS
Let me clear that you don’t have to work for someone to impress. I personally don’t care who thinks what for me, I just do my work with ethics and let the world think about me.
It’s simple that you can’t control the external world but you can nurture yourself.
There are some manners which make your work noticeable to the world.
If you work with honesty, discipline and passion they will glow your work. Believe you will be the most noticeable employee of the staff or if you have your own company than other employees will inspire by your work ethics. And the surrounding atmosphere will be aromatic.
HOW TO GIVE YOUR BEST EVERYDAY
To accomplish your goal it’s highly important to give your best every day but “is it possible?”
Yes, it’s possible. But you have to work hard for that.
Just simplified your life by dividing into personal life and professional life.
When you are in the office you are only and only an employee or a boss. And whenever you’re at home then remember you are the father/mother of your children, husband /wife and there you have to be a family member otherwise you will work from home even after office hours and you will be a family member during office time which is wrong from my perspective.
In short, live your life in the now and now means wherever you are either in office or at home, just be honest with your responsibility that’s it.
EASIEST WAY TO ACCOMPLISH YOUR GOALS
There are many ways to accomplish goals but with my experience, I would advise you to divide your goal into small parts.
For example, your small goal regarding health is that “ 5 km running every day”.
Here what do you think it’s so simple to run 500 meters for a month and next month add on more 500 meters and do the same thing for next months.
By this simple trick, you can accomplish your health goal which gives you immense positive energy for your long term goal, many times our small goal achievement boosts energy for long term goal.
But the point is that “which is the easiest way”, you run 500 meters for the first month but if you haven’t run for a few days of the month those days pushed you back from your goal or you can consider those days as a failure on daily accomplishment. If you figure out your work like this means to consider the day as a failure for not doing so and so work on a particular day. Even if you have some genuine reasons/excuses for not doing your work but judge your day on the basis of your daily work for a goal. No matter whether it’s short term goals or long term goals.
My Personal Goal Setting for Professional Success
Hello guys! I hope you all are healthy during this Pandemic. I know it is necessary to stay fit and improve your immune system in order to boost the immunity that will fight against the deadly COVID-19 virus. Besides this, it is also essential for you to focus on your growth and set your goals to achieve professional success.
Let’s start by giving you a plan of how to set your goals to attain your professional success. But first, you should ask yourself a few questions mentioned below.
Where do you see yourself in the upcoming years?
Do you have a clear idea about your professional objective?
Have you planned something about your daily plan that you want to achieve?
To achieve heights and success in life, first, you are required to set your goals straight. You will lack proper direction, and focus if you won’t set your goals to work on in life. Setting your goals gives you the liberty to be in control and drive your growth in the direction you want to; it also caters you with a criterion that determines your success.
Let me list you the five golden rules of your goal setting for professional success.
1. Set goals that keep you Motivated:
Your goals should be placed in such a way that they motivate you every day to take one more step towards success. It would help if you assured that the goals you have set are vital to you; hence, you realise their value while achieving them. On the contrary, if you tend to have very little interest in your goals, dreams, and outcomes, there are high chances of your goals not being achieved and your plans not being implemented effectively. Motivation is indeed considered an essential key to attaining your goals.
2. Set SMART Goals:
You might have heard of planning the SMART goals. But do you think that this rule can always be applied? A simple fact for your goals to be compelling is that they must have a SMART design. Let’s see what SMART exactly stands:
S – Specific.
M – Measurable.
A – Attainable.
R – Relevant.
T – Time-Bound.
3. Set your Goals in Writing:
The writing down of a goal will make it real as well as tangible. This way, even you won’t have any excuse for not remembering about it. For instance, when you write, “I will cut down my operating expenses by 10%,” it gives you certainty in your tone. But when you write “I would like to cut down my operating expenses by 10%” it gives you a sense of little uncertainty on your side. In the first goal sentence, you can see the power in yourself to reduce the expenses, while the second one lacks the passion and determination as it may give you an excuse in the future that can get it side-tracked.
4. Develop an Action Plan:
Many people often miss this step in the goal-setting process. Sometimes you may pay so much of your attention on the outcome that may get you to forget about planning all your actions that are meant to be implemented throughout the process. To achieve your goals and get your plans implemented efficiently, you are highly advised to pen down all your individual steps and keep checking or crossing each one out as you complete them throughout the process.
5. Stick to your plan!
As we all know that the goal setting is indeed an ongoing process, and not just a means that you are required to end it. You must set reminders in your path that can keep you updated about the process and keep you on track. Your destination may stay a little similar for the longer course of time, but your action plans must be set, changed, and upgraded as the situation demands.
Let me tell you friends, the goal-setting process is considerably simple as it helps you keep track of your progress. These Five Golden Personal Goal Setting Rules for Professional Success can fill you with confidence, and you can enjoy the satisfaction it gives you after achieving your goal.
Don’t just wait for the right time; start acting on what you want to accomplish today.
